Are we able to personalize the word of God?
I find that in my study of the Word of God there are times when it comes connected and alive in my continued faith journey. Admittedly the opposite can become true as well. Seasons of dryness. HOWEVER…When we do find a flood of comfort and sustaining grace in the WORD of God this is such a flourishing place.
I want to share how this can be for you or what is needed to strengthen our walks with the LORD in faith and the righteousness of CHRIST.
Recently there was a realization in me that in many of us when our faith walk is discouraged by life events it is good to consider, call, and enter in to a time with the Lord of extended focus on God’s Word and Prayer. Many believers “know” this, but find themselves critical of the how or what to do in these times. Also, it may be unfamiliar to people who don’t practice this or have felt hurt by religion and religions traditions that make one question the goodness of the LORD. From whatever vantage point you are coming from I do know one thing that is clear…
Isn’t that what the Enemy wants us to do?
To doubt the Good of God and discount the realness of our Faith in Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit that is profoundly holding together all things?
So in coming back to creating space and asking Him to create space with us… well, that is so interesting that we ask to create space with The LORD when He is Omni in ALL things… especially His WORD.
Ever present, ever able, ever attendant to ALL things.
So in referencing some of THE WORD of GOD, here are some key verses and points to consider when seeking to overcome dryness or increase faith walk that is moment to moment and daily abiding.
David - the Shepherd boy - seemed to be really adept at this. He was known and said to be a Man after God’s own heart. Here a a reference in Scripture as to why this is said of him.
And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince[b] over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”1 Samuel 13:14
Saul was on the way out and David was going to become King next. Samuel speaking this to Saul was such a negative thing to the King that had been anointed years earlier but we can see in the text that Saul had been given the chances to come to the LORD and be with the LORD his GOD. Part of the prayer for my own heart and yours is that we not act and be like Saul in this life.
So if David was one after God’s heart, then what was it that he was doing and saying to be with GOD?
In the following passage in Psalms that was preserved we see the following example of the relationship, not religion, but relationship with God that David had.
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, Who forgives all your iniquity, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, Who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. PSALM 103:1-50
I emphasized in bold some of the words… LORD, HIS, WHO… these are all words that come before the references to man, or as David was writing it… himself. There are 9 references to Deity. The pattern that seems to be here is that David is speaking truth over his soul, mind and body.
Do we do this as well? Are we able to recount and insert and speak these words and work of David as our own words to a HOLY GOD? David did and this was acceptable. An accepted aroma of praise and worship to the One True ALMIGHTY GOD.
How about the same consideration of worship that we can give to the following words that JOHN the APOSTLE wrote in his GOSPEL account of the life of JESUS.
In John 1 the following is stated about the WORD and how it became flesh and dwelt among us…
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. JOHN 1:1-5
The word was with GOD.
THE WORD was GOD.
HE ( JESUS ) was in the beginning with GOD.
ALL things… were made.
The very words of God made all things. Formed, created, spoke into being. Not distant.
Psalm 103 further in the chapter describes how much God loves dust.
For he knows our frame;[a] he remembers that we are dust. PSALM 103:14
Reflecting on this briefly it is comforting to think that all of us are known so intimately by The HOLY TRIUNE GOD of All Kingdoms, All Authorities, All Dominions, All Powers, All Natures, All Creatures. The Great AMEN… so be it evermore, the Everlasting, the True one, THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE. (John 14:6)
Also David is attributed to intimately knowing and penning the following…
5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
PSALM 118:5-9
These words are known as the very middle of our modern English translations of the Bible. The exact middle of the Bible found between verses 8 and 9. The statement of course is a bold expression of how the LORD is the refuge and that man is second and the LORD is always first and preeminent.
So getting back to the original intent of the writing…
Are we able to personalize the WORD of GOD? A love letter to each of us? A message in full and complete ways when we read it to us that He died, rose, and lives so that we may not be disconnected, dissociated, demeaned, discorded, discarded, depleted, disowned or decreased in CHRIST? Do we have in JESUS CHRIST and the TRINITARIAN Biblical God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit… the One True GOD who is the most relational and living creative being that has ever existed and will ever be?
YES.
I hope this is as encouraging to you as it is to me during this Christmas Season of 2025. If you would like to find more encouragement and ongoing support please feel free to reach out to me through scheduling time for us both.
