“Dear Mom: As School Ends, Don’t Forget Your Soul”
By Andrew Siefers, MA LPC-S | My Rooted Soul Counseling
The end of the school year is loud.
It’s filled with permission slips, class parties, end-of-year gifts, finals, field days, and calendar chaos. It’s also filled with a quiet ache—a subtle exhaustion only moms seem to recognize. One season closes, another begins—and somehow, you’re expected to hold it all together.
If this is where you find yourself, I want to pause and say: I see you.
As a Christian counselor who walks with hurting individuals, I often meet women—especially mothers—who have spent an entire year making sure their children are safe, seen, and successful... while slowly losing connection with themselves. And now, summer arrives with its own demands. More time at home. Less structure. More togetherness. Less solitude.
So let me ask a different kind of question:
Who is caring for you this summer?
The truth is, your kids don’t need a perfect summer—they need a peaceful mom.
And that peace isn’t found by “powering through.” It’s found by rooting yourself again. In truth. In hope. In healing.
Three Summer Truths Every Mom Needs to Hear
1. Your nervous system has limits.
God did not design you to be constantly overstimulated, overcommitted, and emotionally depleted. If your body is telling you that something feels “off,” listen. Counseling can be a sacred space to breathe, decompress, and realign.
2. It’s okay to want more than survival.
Maybe you’ve quietly endured depression, anxiety, trauma responses, or just chronic burnout. But what if this summer could be different? What if it could be the start of healing—not just a break in the school calendar?
3. Investing in yourself is not selfish—it’s strategic.
The most powerful gift you can give your children is a mom who is present, emotionally whole, and anchored. You’re allowed to take steps toward that health, even while the popsicles are melting and the laundry is never-ending.
A Place for You, Too
At My Rooted Soul Counseling, I work with adult clients—especially Christian women—who are ready to move from burnout and pain into purpose and peace. You don't have to wait for a crisis. You don't need a perfect explanation. You just need a willingness to show up and say, "I want things to be different."
Using a blend of biblical wisdom, trauma-informed care (like EMDR), and proven therapeutic techniques, we’ll create a space for your soul to breathe again.
Summer Might Be for Your Kids... But It Can Be for You Too
Even as you plan camps, snacks, and summer outings, consider planning something for your healing too. Counseling could be your sacred hour each week where you can exhale, process, and reconnect—with God, with your story, and with your future.
Let’s walk together. Let this summer be the one where you get some time in the light, too.
