13- Are you a speck today who needs to hear today?

Day 13

Thy Kingdom come.

I laughed when I got to these words. And then I repented of the laugh.

Because I thought of My Rooted Soul. One man. One practice. One suite in McKinney, Texas. A small caseload of complex people that most providers would rather not carry. And I held that up against the words Thy Kingdom — and the smallness of it almost made me scoff at myself.

A speck. That is what it is.

And then I stopped.

Because He cares for every speck.

Not in the abstract. Not in the theological category of omniscience where He technically tracks all things simultaneously. In the particular. In the specific. In the named and known and accounted for.

Consider the thief on the cross.

Not a disciple. Not a man of formation or training or theological pedigree. A criminal. Dying. Deserving by every human measure of exactly where he was. And in his final moments — with no time left for growth or restitution or any of the things we quietly believe should precede grace — he turned.

And Jesus turned back.

Today. You will be with me.

Not someday. Not after further consideration. Not pending review.

Today.

That is the kingdom. Not the vast and organized institution we sometimes imagine when we hear the word. The kingdom is wherever the King is present and His word is final. It was present on a Roman cross between two criminals on a Friday afternoon that looked like the end of everything.

My Rooted Soul is a speck in the totality of it all. I know that completely. I bow in dust and ashes at the thought of calling it anything more.

And yet.

If one person in that room finds what the thief found — if one stuck and suffering soul hears today in the middle of their Friday that looked like the end — then the Kingdom came.

To a speck.

Because that is what kingdoms ruled by this King do.

They come to specks.

Are you a speck today who needs to hear today?
