"I'm Fine." And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves
(Faith-Based Trauma Therapy Blog from My Rooted Soul Counseling | McKinney, TX)
There’s a phrase we say without thinking, even when everything inside of us is unraveling:
“I’m fine.”
You may have seen the recent reel online — a woman smiling while the voiceover says:
“You’re good at pretending you’re okay… until you’re not.”
It’s raw, it’s real, and it touches something deep inside many of us.
We put on our "fine" face like armor:
We show up for others.
We keep things moving.
We smile through pain, fatigue, fear, and shame.
But inside? It’s a different story.
When Pretending Becomes Exhausting
If you're tired of pretending everything's okay, you're not alone. Many of the individuals I work with here at My Rooted Soul Counseling — from McKinney, Prosper, Celina, Frisco, and across North Texas — have quietly carried the weight of trauma, anxiety, burnout, or deep sadness.
They ask:
“Why do I feel stuck?”
“Why can’t I let go of the past?”
“Is it wrong to feel this angry, this anxious, this numb?”
God Invites Us Into Honesty
We serve a God who doesn’t demand perfection — He invites presence. Jesus Himself said:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
– Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
God’s presence is not reserved for the emotionally put-together — it's especially for those who are breaking inside.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
– Psalm 34:18
